A trip to Sharjah Aquarium
A trip to Sharjah Aquarium
If you're looking for an affordable aquarium, don't forget to check out Sharjah! Just a short trip from Dubai, the Emirate has various museums to offer at affordable rates.
Sharjah Aquarium is located at the end of Al Khan corniche. Entry costs 25 dhs for adults and 15 dhs for children aged 2 to 12- and is even valid for the Maritime Museum next door! Just make sure to bring cash with you as this is usually the only payment method accepted.
There is plenty to see for little ones, starting with sharks!
Fishermens' houses and ancient photographs on display recount memories of fishing and coastal crafts in the local culture.
20 fish tanks recreate different aquatic environments.
There are turtles...
...and even a tunnel under the main aquarium!
Some local aquatic environments are recreated with their fauna and flora.
A special part is dedicated to mangrove environments, which are an essential part of the Emirates' ecosystem.
Rooted in salty waters where no other trees can survive, they form forests which are home for many species of fish and birds.
A touch pool is closed unfortunately but still houses sting rays and starfish.
Would you dare standing here?
The aquarium also has a cafe with affordable snacks (a salty snack or donut for 5,25 dhs for example)...
...and a large seating area.
Some bargains await in the well-stocked museum shop.
Museum timings are 8 am - 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. It's closed on Sundays.
Overall this little aquarium is well-worth a trip! it's probably best to combine it with a visit to nearby areas such as Al Khan lagoon, Al Qasba canal, Al Majaz Waterfront, Flag island, Noor island or Al Mamzar.
